Parts make the world spin…

Among other things that spin. I’ll just leave these here;

Currently trying to find a new one that I can afford. Actually, afford to ship is more accurate.

The pivot wear;

Recovered slugs.

Recovered bullets from shooting Saturday.

On the right a 210 grain JHP, or what’s left of it, from my 41mag. On the left, a, as I recall, 240 grain JHP from a 44mag. Might be a 220 though  (a friend’s gun/ammo). .

Both went into a heavy dell computer case, and through a DVD drive sideways, and stopped against the inside of the steel case(denting it deep), @ about 25 yards.

 The 41 mushroomed out to 0.725″ average, 0.800″ on one axis… The 44 went to 0.600″ average.

The 41 lost a lot of mass though. I need to weigh them both when I get a chance.

The other smaller one is the lead core from a crappy russian TulAnmo surplus .308win that had 165 grain JSPs in them… It went clear through the computer tower, possibly through a hard drive or DVD drive, and a couple inches into a wet punky cottonwood log. Not much left of it, jacket totally gone, Really stripped the lead off too.  But it did manage to mushroom to about 0.40″

The 41 was my Ruger Blackhawk, the 44 a friend’s Ruger Redhawk, and the 308 another friends Rock River Arms M16 A4.

What we were shooting at, after all was said and done;

One of these trips I need to take along a truck bed full of old phone books and newspapers, some cans of water and do the boxes of wet newspaper concept. Along with my cronograph, do some more serious velocity and expansion comparisons.

Trailer troubles.

Was taking my little 4×8 folding utility trailer to loan it to a friend… wheel bearing started making a little noise.

Turns out it didn’t loosen up and get better after it starting sticking and dragging the tire… 😯😕😓 .

I figured the trailer had sat a while(1.5 years, was used one, had sat 8 before that) and was stiff, little rusty maybe, it’d loosen if I ran it slow for a ways, then I’d grease it at the end. It did loosen. When the bearing ate itself and went out. Oops. .

Stopped part way to check it since it hadn’t stuck for a ways.. Wheel wobble was terrible, jacked it up and the wheel w/ the hub slid right off, and the roller bearings fell out.

God’s grace alone that it didn’t come off going down the road! Thank You Lord! .

I feel like an idiot, but it could have loosened and been fine, so I shouldn’t feel dumb on making a choice, 50/50 odds I figure..

Just not the outcome I needed. Lol. .

Do feel dumb that I never ever thought to grease those bearings till they went out… that Was dumb! 😒😩 .

So now it’s sitting at a friends place while I figure out how to change the bearings, and where to get them.

Worst part is that I was taking it to loan to another friend… not urgent, and he’s not in a bind for it, but… yeah. .

Ain’t life grand? Lol.

A Field Notes upgrade.

Pocket wear on the Field Notes that I use for church sermon and prayer notes was getting heavy, and it’s only 1/4 full…

I have to use the Expedition version or a leather cover, else they get extremely rough before I fill one.

 Anyway, I wrapped the cover on this one in clear Gorilla packaging tape. Should help. Can’t hurt anyway.

Also added a patch place with industrial grade adheasive backed velcro. The stuff sticks great to almost anything!

Post coming shortly on that velcro and some other patches. ☺

Rafting gear casualty.

I’ll have several gear posts from this trip, and unfortunately this one is for damaged stuff…

BUT, amazingly,  only one item suffered on the trip!

Somehow after half way through day 3, Friday, I lost the rotating bezel marker ring out of my Citizen Eco-Drive Diver. :o:(

I had used the timer function of that ring mid day, as a friend started through some unseen rapids around a bend ( to track how long to wait before going after him if we didnt hear from him in a set time span) but since he radioed back well under that time span, I never had to check the timing…

And while I checked the time a lot for the rest of that day, I was so busy/active that I  didn’t notice when the ring disappeared… Just noticed it was gone when I bedded down for the night.

Just before I’d used it and knew it was there, we’d just hiked the 2nd half of the portage, a 1/4 mile of tight steep winding rocky gorge, where I made three trips through total…  I probably clicked it on some rocks, and if it was already loose from previous use/abuse (not like this watch has led a cushy life so far!) it’s understandable that it could be loosened more and come out later in the day.

You can see in The pic where it half laps the rotating bezel ring and the crystal. Thankfully it’s not All of what holds the crystal in! 😉  And thus I’m still wearing the watch, as is, Every day. 😆

The model is discontinued,  but I’ll still contact Citizen and see if I can buy one. If not, I’ll go to the lathe and see if I can make one. 😆

Jason, my old friend(who passed away last fall) who gave me the watch would be proud I think… I’m wearing it and using it just like he did, not babying it!  (Miss you my friend!)
