Beads

A well traveled bead…

One of my brass beads recently racked up some miles on its way to its new home. I gave this one to a friend in South Carolina last spring. He recently gifted it to another friend, and it now resides with him in Bavaria Germany!

(The full story is, that the knife was only available in the US, and the friend in SC was kind enough to act as a go between to order it and get it to the fellow in Germany, sending the bead along as a gift with it. Gotta love knowing really COOL and KIND people!)

First Copper bead

Haven’t had shop time for a month or more so this is the first new bead I’ve been able to make in a while…  Also my first ever in copper!  1/2″ x 0.70″ W/ 0.200” center hole. Turned from 3/4″ solid round Terilium copper bar.

Frigid Beads, Round Models, Brass, 3/8″ and 1/2″

Three models, in two sizes.

3/8” Dia, and 1/2” Dia. +/–  ~1/64”–1/32”

Both come out about 5/8” long finished, +/–  ~1/16”

Three Models in 1/2” ; The Generator, The 1976(Groovy!) And The Lifter(Barbell)

All have ~(approx.)0.201” Dia. Center hole.  Fits loose on Single strand Un-gutter 550, snug on Dual strands Gutted 550, and you Can get Dual strands UN-gutted 550 into them, but its a chore to do.

All are hand turned, IE no CNC, all operations/tool movements by hand. No measurements used in depths, diameters, etc except hole sizes, all others are “eye balled” as I go. SO there is a certain varrance in each piece, no two are 100% exactly the same. Two consecutive beads of one model, of the same run will have a 5% average to 10% max varriance. They are “The Same, Generally” but not “Exactly The Same” 😉

2nd Froggy Burgundy bead.

This is actually the first one I made, but while polishing it, I didn’t have a good grip and the buffer grabbed and flung it… I heard it hit the ceiling in the shop, the bench once, somewhere else once, then land… somewhere. Never found it, and made the other one I posted before.  I found it tonight in the muck/sawdust etc under a bench in the shop while cleaning up.
