A little taste of the new year

Unreal warm weather for interior Alaska in Dec/Jan, and we’ve had about a week of it too!

A friend at the forums asked for a pic of my modded Vic Spirit blade. Nothing fancy, these come serrated, the colocial term for them is “the bread knife”, I just ground the serratons off, and convexed the edge. Did that with in a day or two of owning the tool, about 8.5 or 9 years ago..

New items came in the 29th, a couple hankerchiefs from Skar Hanks.  Double layer, heavy cotton, Super well made.

I’ve found that carrying a bandanna, or hank can be invaluable at times. For the classic task of a hank, for blowing your nose, in this day and age, paper towels/tisues are so plentiful, using a hank is rather discusting, but if its all you got, your gonna use it ;). But for me its the handy pocket towel(“hitch hikers guide to the galaxy” anyone? πŸ˜‰ )… grease rag… pot holder…. Anything HOT holder… brow wiper, wash rag, etc..

Not sure if they were really worth the $14, and $18 I paid, but Hanks are a EDC Fad right now, and I wanted to get something from a well respected maker to see how nice they were…

And this guy does a lot of ones in map and plaid prints, which I really like the looks of. The map one is called the Explorer πŸ˜‰ which was close enough to Adventurer, and a coolprint, that I just had to get it.

It was worth it because I like them, but technically, as simple as it is to hem and layer two 10” squares of fabric together to make one hank, its hard to justify $15 to $20 for them… Now if you can’t sew, or don’t know anyone who can, it might be worth it.. I won’t be buying many though, even though they are well made for that reason… for $20 I can get two or more square yards of fabric and make my own.

I had aodd one yesterday, radiator in the truck was puking antifreeze/coolant all over the place, but I couldn’t find where from for a long time… and it was losing it Fast.   Finally found it when I got home, agter the truck warmed up really good, so it was really spraying it hard. Thought it was the radiator at first, and now to find its the hose is GREAT; $20 part vs. $150(minimum) part. πŸ˜‰
